Dread Restoration or Removal

Life gets away on all of us sometimes. We’ve had babies, travelled to exotic locations, moved house.. you name it, we can relate to getting busy!

Whatever the reason, if you haven’t been able to keep up with regular maintenance on your dreads, you may be experiencing some issues. Your roots may be joining together causing painful pulling, you may have unsightly lumps and bumps, or your dreads might be becoming thin (or even breaking) in places.

Even worse, your scalp may become irritated, or in extreme cases may become red and raw - especially if a fungal infection or true dandruff has gotten out of hand. While prevention is easier than a cure, if your dreads have become problematic we are here to help.

Repairing dreads can be complex, and a treatment plan spread out over a few separate sessions often yields the best results. You can find out more about some of the techniques we use below.

Perhaps you’re just ready to say goodbye to your current set of dreads. It’s totally normal to fall out of love with your dreads, especially if they are uncomfortable.

Regardless of whether your dreads are mature or new, our intensive conditioning dread removal method minimises hair loss so that you can roll straight back into your old hairdresser and come out with a new ‘do.

Please note, we cannot guarantee the results - you will likely lose some length, but you may be surprised at the overall condition of your natural hair.

Dread Repair and Restoration

If you’re experiencing problematic, tired, or breaking dreads (or an uncomfortable scalp) we are here to help. Our intensive Repair and Restoration process will generally take place over two or more separate sessions.

First we formulate an action plan for best results. We then get underway with a deep clean, paying particular attention to your scalp as the foundation for your restoration.

We use various techniques to restore your dreads to their former glory, or to fix long-term issues. Dread Repair and Restoration may involve cutting, trimming, grafting, resectioning, or temporary banding.

Certain techniques (such as resectioning) may be spread out over two or more sessions. This will ultimately help ensure that your repaired dreads are secure and that the process is as comfortable as possible. Other techniques (such as grafting) may require us to order new hair (or remove tips and repurpose them) to patch thin sections. This will be discussed with you at your first consultation.

Dread Removal

Many people think that removing dreads is a simple process, and one which involves just one tool - scissors. However, removing your dreads does not mean that you have to sport an awkward buzz cut for the next few years.

Our intensive conditioning soak removal method does what it says on the tin. We get you super comfortable with some nice tunes or a good podcast, fill the salon tub, and condition, soak, and comb to meticulously and gently unlock each of your dreads by hand.

The maturity, quantity, and maintenance level of your dreads will determine how long you sit with us. However, as a rough guide we recommend allowing 3-5 hours for immature dreads (less than 1-2 years old), and a full day to remove mature, shoulder-length dreads. Sessions can be booked over several consecutive days if required.
