We are passionate about great dreads. Doing dreads right is a fantastic answer to convenient, affordable, comfortable, and meaningful hair, no matter who is asking.
But, dreads are so much more than a hairstyle: your hair has the power to boost your confidence, which in turn can lead you to great places. Many cultures view hair as sacred and as a connection to God or spirituality. Some people like the convenience or versatility of dreads, while others see it as an environmentally friendly option for long-term hair care.
Regardless of your personal preferences, we value the camaraderie and the shared values that tend to draw people to dread life. The kinship amongst the dreaded is testament to this. Everybody should have a feeling of belonging, and since dreads first began in our cave man days it’s fair to say we all belong here. This solidarity fuels our desire to make dread care both affordable and accessible. We want you to feel at home at ours, or we can come to you.
OUR VISION AND PHILOSOPHY
OUR STUDIO
Our comfortably casual studio is located on a residential street in Stanmore Bay, close to all amenities. Step into our garden (an ongoing work in progress!) and you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome from Erin or Lucy (our infamously hairy four-legged friend).
With two comfortable gas lift salon chairs, a large screen TV, Netflix, free wifi, and barista coffee, our studio will become your oasis as you escape the hustle and bustle and invest some time on what matters. Sit back and relax with a book, podcast, or light conversation as we tame flyaways, relock your roots, and nourish your scalp. Or, perhaps bring your Xbox and get some solid game time in while we give you the kind of hair transformation you’ve always dreamed of. The choice is yours.
With flexibility around indoor or outdoor session location, we can accommodate everyone’s needs. All of our equipment is fully mobile - yes, including our soak basin. This means you can have comprehensive, personalised care, in the comfort of your own space.
Established in 2024, Coast Dread Company is a culmination of life and dread experiences for it’s founder Erin Crowley.
Formerly focused on her occupation as a touring musician, Erin has worn, created, and maintained dreads using traditional and innovative techniques for over 20 years. Having settled Stanmore Bay to raise her young family, she now brings this wealth of experience to the dread-heads of North Auckland and beyond.
When she gets some free time Erin likes to spend it in the garden where she is working on a native restoration project as well as a street-accessible fruit forest. She feels a strong sense of purpose and is driven to give back to her community through charity gigs and plantings.
With a perfect blend of comfortable simplicity and perfectionism, Erin takes great care in ensuring you get the very best from your dread journey.

OUR PLACE
Only 25kms from Auckland’s CBD, we think Stanmore Bay is the perfect destination for your dread oasis.
Situated on the stunning Whangaparāoa Peninsula, Stanmore Bay has multiple safe and pristine beaches, two stunning regional parks, playgrounds, fishing, kayaking, birdwatching, and so much more all within a 10km radius.
A temperate, subtropical climate fosters lush greenscapes and makes it home to a variety of wildlife, including native and exotic birds. Orca and sperm whales are also known to frequent the area.
Our studio is an easy walking distance from the Stanmore Bay shopping centre. For the foodies, nearby Orewa’s dining delights are within delivery range, so you can eat like a King or Queen during or after your session. Bargain hunters will swoon at the op shops on offer.

New Dreads
Half head or full head, natural or extensions. Whether you want to preserve your natural hair with temporaries or are ready for a permanent change, we provide a full, organic service.

Maintenance
We aim for ‘comfortably crisp’ with your regular tidy-ups - a perfect blend of tight dreads and a happy scalp! We use a crochet twist method and provide a full deep clean package.

Restoration or Removal
If you are unhappy with your dreads, we can undertake restoration techniques to get them back to their former glory! Or, we can help you to preserve hair condition and length via careful removal.
